Jacquie Rowan Peterson, a retired Master Sergeant in the Air Force, now Warren County Veteran Coordinator, had written a poem for a Warren County- native Coast Guardsman who saved 165 children in the Central Texas floods per CNN’s coverage. “A whisper of strength and boots on the ground”, as well as “He carried them one by one to higher ground” are just some of the phrases you will hear about hope and faith, as well as “I got you kid, just follow my lead”.

Scott Ruskan, a 2017 graduate from Warren Hills High School, in Warren County, NJ, now U.S. Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer, risked his own life in his first deployment diving into the flooding neighborhoods in Texas. Ruskan has since been recognized by Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) as a “true American Hero” and has co-sponsored House Resolution.570, a resolution recognizing his heroic service to our nation.
